STS COVID-19 Webinar Programme
To help members during this time of lock down, STS is putting on a programme of online webinars on areas of interest expressed by members through our education survey. To keep sessions accessible they are completely free, are normally only an hour long and run in the early evening so members still working can access them.

Webinar: Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport

About This Session
This course is officially provided in partnership between sportscotland and Children 1st and comes with official certification on completion of the course.
The course is designed for people with leadership, coaching and welfare roles in a club to help them better understand and promote a positive culture, as well as how to prepare for and respond to concerns when it comes to the welfare of junior members.
By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
Understand what is meant by ‘child wellbeing and protection’
Recognise the value of a child-centred approach to child wellbeing and protection
Identify good practice in relation to child wellbeing and protection and how this impacts the sports environment
Recognise the legislative and policy framework around child wellbeing and protection
Identify and respond to possible child wellbeing or protection concerns
Identify the limits of your safeguarding role and know when to get support
Be introduced to the Spectrum of Practice and use it to consider, evaluate and respond to common coaching scenarios
Receive an introduction to the factors that create a culture of poor practice
Identify barriers to disclosure
Cover the process for responding to concerns
Put the responding to concerns process into practice to deal with serval complex cases
Normally, these courses involve multiple sports but STS will put on this course for shooting clubs only so a more detailed discussion, relevant to shooting clubs, can take place.
The course is a 3 hour online tutor led interactive course split into two 90 minute sessions (you do not need to register for each session separately):
Session 1 will be held on Tuesday 2nd June from 4-5.30pm
Session 2 will be held on Thursday 4th June from 7.30-9pm
Important: It is also a requirement that attendees complete a 45 minute online course. This course is automated so it can completed at a time of the attendees choosing.
Attendees must attend both tutor led online sessions as well as completing an automated online session (of approx. 45 mins) in order to pass the course.
