Air Weapon Permit
Following a change in the law on 31 December 2016, it is now necessary to have an air weapon certificate to possess, use or purchase an air weapon in Scotland.
If you hold a valid firearm and/or shotgun certificate that was issued in Scotland, England or Wales before 31 December 2016, you do not need a separate air weapon certificate until your existing certificate expires. A Northern Irish firearm certificate is not valid in Scotland.
Please Note : You cannot hold a certificate under the age of 14. If you're over 14 but under 18 you can apply for a certificate but you can't buy, hire or own an air weapon.
Visiting Scotland with an Air Weapon
Anyone visiting Scotland intending to use an air weapon but not holding a valid certificate will need to apply for and obtain a visitor’s permit or a full air weapon certificate. Visitor Permits are issued by Police Scotland.
Visitors to Scotland bringing their own air rifle and/or air pistol are responsible for ensuring they have the necessary permit and/or certificate in order to compete at STS events held in Scotland.
You can find more information about applying for an Air Weapon Certificate and Visitor Permits on the Police Scotland Website here :
