British Shooting has this week announced the official launch of 'Project Pistol' which aims to unearth future Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls for 2024 and beyond.
Project Pistol will be targeting individuals with potential to join an exciting Talent Pathway to provide shooters the opportunity to develop into World Class Air Pistol shooters.
British Shooting will be hosting a series of targeted talent identification days which will aim to find shooters with potential to be recruited onto the Talent Pathway.
Dean Leak, Talent Pathway Manager, said: "Project Pistol is a unique opportunity to take Air Pistol shooting in Great Britain to a new level in finding and developing the next generation of shooting potential to be truly World Class.
"Our Project Pistol Pathway Working Group are doing a fantastic job in figuring out the challenges and opportunities that exist to ensure we do our best to reach out to as many people in the Shooting and non-shooting communities to embark on this journey.
"We are interested in engaging with existing Target Shooters in Great Britain but would also encourage Pony Club, Pentathlon, Cadets and Scouts shooters to explore the opportunities that will be available to support athletes in developing their shooting skills within the British Shooting Pistol Talent Pathway.
"We aim to add value to shooters who are already training and competing in existing disciplines, environments and training squads."
Following a series of talent identification days, successful candidates will be recruited into the National Pistol Talent Pathway to learn the skills and behaviours necessary to develop into great people and performers.
Dean Leak, added: "We are looking for individuals who have a huge passion to embark on a sporting journey of excellence and one day realise their dream of representing and winning medals for Great Britain.
"Whilst we aim to support athletes on their individual journey, we want to build and sustain an integrated Olympic and Paralympic Pistol Talent Pathway which creates a community of high level shooters who train and compete regularly with each other."
British Shooting Head Pistol Coach, Steve Pengelly, said: "I think this is an excellent step forward for pistol shooting in Great Britain. I would encourage pistol athletes, of all abilities, to seriously consider this opportunity.
"At this stage, we are not looking for today's best shooters, but rather the best shooters of tomorrow. Have you got the passion, determination and drive to become our future medal winners? If you have, we want to hear from you."
