Scottish 50M Rifle Championships

The Scottish 50m Rifle Championship was held over the weekend of the 14/15 July 2018 at the Denwood range in Aberdeen.  The weather at the weekend was exceptionally good like the shooting.  There were 46 competitors from Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Norway.

Saturday was the Men's Prone and the Women's 3 Position events.  In the Men's prone, the top score from the elimination relays was 621.5 from Jim Godsell.  The Championship shoot, which was a 60-shot match, saw Ken Parr win the open championship with 624.2, with Tony Lincoln only 0.3 behind in second place.  The top scoring Scot was Tom Diggle and the top junior Matthew Man. The Women's 3P saw some impressive shooting in the qualification relay with Jennifer McIntosh and Katie Gleeson both shooting 1160 but Seonaid McIntosh qualified with a score with 1170, only 5 points short of her own Scottish record.  The ISSF final saw the same 3 challenging for the medals, with Seonaid 1st, Katie 2nd and Jennifer 3rd.  Abby Warren was the top junior in 6th place.

Here are all of Saturday's winners.  In addition to their medals, first and second in the Open events received ammunition from RWS, who kindly sponsor this event.

Sunday proved to be a bit more tricky as the wind got up and the scores edged down a bit.  The events were the Men's 3P and Women's Prone.  The top qualifiers were Michael Bargeron, Ken Parr and Dean Bale with scores of 1157, 1154 and 1153, respectively. We then switched to the Women's Championship, which was a 60 shot match. The wind took some interesting turns during this event.  The honours went to Jennifer McIntosh 619.2), Zoe Bruce (618.9) and Katie Gleeson (618.8) with only 0.3 between first and second and 0.1 between second and third.  The top junior was Isabel Stark.  Then to finish the day we had the ISSF Final for the Men's 3P.  In this Dean Bale won through with a score of 457.8, Michael Bargeron was 2nd and Ken Parr 3rd.  The top Scot was Ruaraidh Macleod and the top junior was Matthew Man.
