The Scottish Junior Pistol team was a mix of 5 experienced and novice shooters. All were shooting in exceptionally hot conditions that seemed to affect performances.
Hamish McDonald was the first to compete, starting his competition with a promising seventh in the Grand Prix.
Greater things followed after he qualified for the new style final of the men’s 10m Air Pistol, he displayed nerves of steel as he shot his way to the last 2. It was edge of the seat spectating as Ayush Chauhan and Hamish shot for first to sixteen points.
Sadly despite a great comeback Hamish won a well-deserved silver medal. Hamish also picked up a mixed team Gold in this event.
The women all started with the Sport Pistol. Emilia Faulkner was the best placed team member in 6th place. The other team members were very neatly placed 14th-16th, with Nicola Coggle being 14th, then Ailsa King followed by Hazel King, a reversal of the two sisters usual rankings.
While no individual medals were won the performance was enough for a team Bronze.
The Grand Prix brought another 6th for Emilia, Nicola improved with a 12th placing and order was restored between the King sisters as Hazel (20th) ranked above Aisla (28th).
Emilia began to recapture her form in the 10m Air Pistol, qualifying for the final.
She shot a very controlled final only to miss winning by a fraction of a point. This earned her a Bronze medal. Nicola was placed 13th, Hazel 24th and Ailsa 26th. The team was 4th overall.
