Twenty TR shooters were joined for the weekend by two Club TRF shooters and on Saturday three shooting NRA FTR on an F Class target. It was especially good to see four Dollar pupils with Shooting Master Craig Stewart
On Saturday we enjoyed warm sunshine and blue skies all day with lower Glen Tilt looking its best. We started at 500 yds in light winds. At 600 yds the wind became stronger and more difficult to read. The difficulty increased at 400 yards where most competitors had their lowest score of the day. Special mentions go to Claire Halleran who dropped a single point in the day to win the Saturday Aggregate with an impressive 254v39 ex 255v51; and to Euan Munro whose 17-shot 85v16 at 500 yds will be hard to better.
Sunday dawned cold, damp and very grey and stayed like that - or worse- all day; but at least the proper rain held off until we had finished. Wind and visibility caused moderate problems at 900yds and serious ones at 1000 yds, where the wind proved very difficult to read and at times the targets were all but obscured . Despite those distractions from the concentration needed for 2+20 at each distance, Ron Scaglione and Mike Barlow each put in 195v24, closely followed by Angus McLeod on 195v22. Ron took the day on a countback.
Winner of the overall Championship was Mike Barlow with nine off for the weekend. Angus McLeod was second with only three more points dropped out of 455. Duncan Campbell won B Class, Peter Burbridge Club TRF Class and Chris Cairns took the Grand Agg, Trophy for the highest FTR score. Thanks to the generosity of Tullibardine Distillery the winners of the full weekend classes received, as well as silverware to be polished, 75cl bottles of liquid to be polished off.
This was an enjoyable, friendly event with everyone helping with the many tasks needed.
