Mark Ferrari of the Forres Smallbore Rifle & Pistol Club has recently been presented with the Silver Medal as the top scoring competitor in the 2024 ‘Medal and Salvers’ competition which forms part of the STS Winter Rifle Postal programme. The Silver Medal is awarded to the competitor with the highest score in the second round, regardless of Class. Mark won Class B with a score of 298, three points clear of the best scores in Class A.
We have become aware that no Silver Medals have been presented for this competition for many years - quite possible back as far as the 1990s - and the reasons why are unfortunately lost in the mists of time. Requests for help from previous winners in an attempt to understand when this happened have proved rather fruitless, and the costs involved make it prohibitively expensive to try and work backwards, but with this award for 2024 we have re-started the presentation of this prestigious award, and will present medals for the two previous years - marking the re-start of competition post-pandemic - as soon we receive them from our supplier.
