Ian Shirra-Gibb

It is with immense sadness that we inform you of the passing of Ian Shirra-Gibb, who peacefully passed away on Monday 24 Marchat home.

Donald McIntosh has helped share his memories of ‘Gibby’:

Gibby was well known to generations of Scottish rifle shooters, and a key figure in the early days of Air Rifle and 3P - he won the Scottish Championships in both of those events in the 1980s.

He was part of the very first Scottish Air Rifle team at the British Championships in the 1970s and Captain of the very first Scottish 3P team in the Home Countries international at Bisley in 1991.  He won 28 Scottish Caps, mostly in Air Rifle, between 1975 and 1991.

By the time I met Ian, he was already a coach involved with GB teams, both the NSRA's National Squad and also the 300m squad, where he was the leading figure for many years.  I was lucky enough to be on the range when his 'boys' became World Champions in 2010 and I was relieved he hadn't had a heart attack by the time Harry Creevy fired the final shots to take the Gold.

He was also well known to many as the owner / operator of Tenring Sport Services at Bisley and as part of Centra UK.
